Visit us at: www.lightningemotors.com to learn more about our organization and living in Colorado!Position SummaryThis role is responsible for creating electric vehicle controls software necessary to support serial production and assembly of EV systems. The person in this role will develop, implement, and test control systems as well as build code and implement new features. Among other duties, this role will install, test, and troubleshoot systems for delivered customers. Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and test controls software as well as hardware improvements for existing and future systems
  • Build and modify Simulink code to run on real-time embedded targets
  • Implement new features on Lightning eMotors' new products
  • Install, test, and troubleshoot delivered customer systems (both local and remote)
  • Participate in both component selection and verification activities
  • Other duties as assignedCompetencies
    • Technically minded: Ability to read engineering drawings, prints, schematics, and diagrams along with basic knowledge of tools and manufacturing (soldering, wiring, etc.). Possess ability to collect, organize, analyze, and report on data.
    • Problem Solving: Be able to troubleshoot and utilize critical thinking to develop solutions.
    • Motivated: Self-starter, complete projects independently and quickly. Be able to influence others at all levels of the organization.
    • Communication: Demonstrated ability to interact respectfully with all colleagues and customers. Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills are essential along with the ability to listen intently to others while building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external customers.
    • Time management: Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines, remain organized, and focused on work in a manufacturing environment. Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in high pressure settings. What we require:
      • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or similar Engineering field; or equivalent work experience in related field
      • 3 years of experience in controls systems engineering or software engineering in automotive industry or similar industry
      • Demonstrated Simulink and Matlab development and application experience
      • ISO 26262 knowledge
      • Demonstrated experience with SIL and HIL testing
      • Demonstrated experience functional safety for road vehicles
      • Demonstrated experience with Controls and Mechatronics theory
      • Microsoft Office Suite, FTP, and basic networking proficiency What we prefer:
        • 5+ years of experience in Controls Systems Engineering or Software Engineering in automotive industry or similar industry
        • Experience working in PTC Creo (including Creo Schematics)
        • Experience working with wire harnesses and generating wire harness documentation as well as automotive electrical systems
        • Demonstrated knowledge of ASPICE
        • Understanding of basic electric vehicle systems and operationsEngineering levels: all degrees should be in an Engineering related course of study
          • Engineer levels I and II: up to 2 years of professional experience combined with a Bachelor's, or an advance degree combined with some work experience
          • Senior: minimum of 5 years of experience with a Bachelor's; or 3 years of experience with a Master's degree; or a PhD; or equivalent work experience
          • Lead: Minimum of 8 years of experience with a Bachelor's; or 6 years of experience with a Master's; or 3 years with a PhD; or equivalent work experience Physical abilities
            • Ability to lift 30-50 pounds
            • Regularly perform repetitive tasks, including prolonged periods at a desk
            • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, climb, kneel, and twist.
